We are a village of friends pursuing devotion to Jesus Christ as a way of life. It gets messy at times, but we love it!
Presently, our “village” consists of two families: Phil & Meredith and Ed & Katie. We live in Virgil Village, a very interesting and diverse working class neighborhood of East Hollywood, CA.
For us, church is a way of life… not an event. We value village faith – no one is meant to spiritually journey alone! Hence the name of our blog: Way of Life Village.
We first crossed paths at Pepperdine University where we went to college. After graduating, we journeyed for several years with a loving community who call themselves the Hollywood Church of Christ. God used our spiritual family in Hollywood to draw us into deeper relationship to his Son, who loves us all and is sweeping us up into his larger purposes for the world.
In October 2006 our two families relocated to East Hollywood to live and serve as missionaries among God’s precious, “missing ones” in the city. With a focus on working poor immigrants in East Hollywood, we join a growing number of missionaries who are preparing the mission field of Los Angeles for the radical movement of the Holy Spirit known as a church planting movement.
In particular, our hearts ache for the growing number of people in America who never will set foot in a traditional church building (again or for the first time) or be reached by the church cultures we’ve created. Rather than asking these friends to “go to church” with us so we can introduce them to Jesus, we are introducing them to Jesus so they can become his church wherever they are. We are using this blog to reflect on our experiences in this adventure.

[We are a mixture of lay and professional missionaries. Ed works a “regular job”, and Katie and Meredith are at-home moms. Phil is a full-time church planter supported by three congregations: Westside Church of Christ (his overseeing church), Highland Oaks Church of Christ, and Hollywood Church of Christ. Phil and Meredith also receive ongoing training and coaching support from Kairos: Church Planting Support.]
