Faith-Sharing: New Bible studies

Phil | June 23, 2009 5:48 pm

Three new Bible studies just started, and possibly a fourth will begin this week. I am hopeful the individuals requesting these Bible studies will soon gather their family members and/or friends to read and spiritually journey with them.

Two of Meredith’s co-workers in their mid-twenties, who have teased Meredith for being a “Christian,” requested a Bible study with Meredith. So last night they came over for dinner and we read and discussed a biblical story that sparked a lot of discussion about what God is like vs what their impressions of “churches” have been like.  They told us stories of how they felt judged by their appearances (lip piercings, tattoos, all black clothing, etc) when they went to churches in the past.  They said they are looking for people who are really living out their faith and experiencing a transformed life, not just going to church all the time.  They have been burned by religious people, but they are very open to exploring a relationship with God.  One of the girls wants to bring her boyfriend to the study next time.  They also talked about bringing another co-worker with them.

Phil,

This is an amazing example of how God is actively seeking us. Thank you for sharing this report with everyone and thank you for giving your lives to Christ to be used for His glory.

Stories like this are an awesome encouragement, Phil! Thanks for posting them. I hope to hear more of how the Bible Study goes.

Phil,

Sounds like this may become a good study group. I pray it does and a leader becomes evident. Remember to keep everything reproducible, since that is the only way the cycle can start.

Father,

I pray for these people who are opening their lives to you. It is good that they differentiate between you and those who follow you. I pray Phil, Meridith and the others on the team will model authentic faith. Help all of your children to realize our example is attracting people to you or repulsing them. Forgive our failures and grow us up by your Spiirt.

I ask that these people will begin to put your Word into practice in their lives. We know transformation ocurs when we obey you. I pray they will be wise hearers–people who do what Jesus says.

Give the E-Ho team an open door. We know when you open a door, no man can shut it. Swing it wide, Father!

Bless Phil with a job that will give him kingdom connections. Remove the obstacles that his support creates. Provide the financial support he, his family, and the ministry need.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen
