As you may have noticed, we’ve just added a Frequently Asked Questions page to this web site on a trial basis.  If it seems helpful we’ll keep it on the site.  It is a work in progress, so if you don’t see your question answered, let us know.  You can check it out here.

Quotes from this week

Stuff my neighbors said:

“You’re the first White friends I’ve ever eaten dinner with,” said our 20-year neighbor to Meri, Katie and me as she served us pozole.  She has lived in Los Angeles since she was three!

“I’m not finding any work.”

“I just lost my job.”

“I just lost my job this week.  So did my mom and my boyfriend.”

“Felipe, we really want to go and meet your parents and the church who pray for us in Bakersfield [located 100 miles north of Hollywood].  But tell us, are their immigration checkpoints along the way?”

More Hectors, Roxys, and Hannahs

January 23, 2008 10:12 pm | Written by Phil

God is anointing this ministry.  We are praying for opportunities for Hector and Roxy to share his faith right away, and training them to do so.  This week Hector helped us reach out to a neighbor and his family, whom we met at our Halloween party and have been praying for since October.  They don’t know it yet but this neighbor’s household may be the next church!  Afterward Hector said to me, “I want you to call on me any day or hour of the night, I will be there for you.  I want to do whatever it takes to see the next church get started!”  Praise God!

For the past few months God has sent to us another Jesus-follower (I’ll call her Hannah) and her two sons to join us in this mission.  She is passionate about prayer, has the spirit of a learner, helps prepare and facilitate bible studies, and has been a great source of encouragement to all of us.

Pray for soft hearts as we train the disciples in this first of many new churches to lead their relatives, neighbors, and coworkers to Christ and form more communities of faith.

Here is something you can pray for: Now God is sending us more Hectors and Roxys and Hannahs!  What we’ve seen happen with Hector and Roxy and Hannah is just beginning to happen with at least eleven other families as they become curious about Jesus and his simple Way.  Pray we all will be obedient to the Spirit’s promptings and be fruitful.  Pray that God’s Word will go forth convicting the nations who have come to LA, and that in all things God’s name will be praised.

New Year, New Cambios

January 8, 2008 5:31 pm | Written by Phil

After a wonderful vacation with relatives in New York, we returned to LA to worship with three other families, this time gathering in Ed and Katie’s home.  It felt so good to be back with our brothers and sisters, the first of many new churches in East Hollywood.

Unfortunately, Hector, your newly baptized brother in Christ, couldn’t make it to Sunday’s gathering as he was called in early to work.  So last night I dropped by to pay a visit to him and Roxy.  They had some “cambios” (changes) to show me in their apartment.  Aside from the new shoes their daughter got from Santa, and a new couch that he and Roxy found on the curb of their street (which they cleaned off and covered with a bed sheet), Hector had some spiritual cambios he wanted me to notice in their household.
