Yesterday was the first day of school. Our two families invited other neighborhood families to bring their children to hang out in our backyard (okay, it’s a concrete slab) for a ’back to school’ playdate after school let out. At least eight children, five parents and a grandma showed up. One of the moms brought snacks and drinks. One of the dads bought a pizza for everyone. We had a water balloon toss, played kick ball and baseball, ate popsicles, rode bikes and tricycles in a circle on our concrete slab, and took pictures of kids making funny faces. Meanwhile the moms held Ed and Katie’s new baby and all the adults talked about culture, parenting and faith. It’s so fun when community just happens from loving one another!
