Our family used the fall to visit supporting churches: Westside Church of Christ in Bakersfield, CA (our overseeing church), Highland Oaks Church of Christ in Dallas, TX, and Hollywood Church of Christ in Hollywood, CA. People poured out their love on us and showered the urban poor of East Hollywood in prayer. It was energizing to see Jesus-followers get excited about joining God in his mission! In October and November our team relocated to a ghetto of East Hollywood. With help from several of you, we renovated the apartment building (owned by Ed & Katie and a dear friend).

Katie and Meredith and the boys made 400 Christmas cookies and delivered them to our new neighbors. This simple act of kindness opened lots of doors (literally and figuratively)! One middle-aged woman cried because someone thought of her. Several neighbors were touched, and we’ve been getting together to build relationships! Katie and Meredith especially connected with a young mom who seems receptive. She is relationally-influential with many people in her apartment complex. We’re wondering if she might be a “person of peace”, the kind of individual Jesus instructed his disciples to look for in Luke chapter 10. I am getting acquainted with her husband. Also, Ed is building a friendship with a married couple who live next door. Please keep these families in your prayers. -Phil
